BACK TO THE GYM... This is one of the last color exercises intended to increase the ability to see and paint color, emphasizing "spot" color. Here I have constructed a black cube that will show the effects of reflected color, and work to create black from only the limited color palette and NO BLACK at all.. This was one of the first compositions so (on reflection) the cube is a little smaller than I would like
This approach employs common,every day items with knife painting (rather than brush). Modeling is created using spots rather than graded applications, making a more rugged finished look.
David Zimmerman was born in Washington, D.C.He began his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964. He continued on in his training with Bill Woodward at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In order to receive a bacalaureate degree he transferred to George Washington University, where he studied Drawing and Printmaking with Frank Wright. He was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 1970.After a brief period of training with Phillip Pearlstein in Massachusetts, he returned to George Washington University where he again studied with William Woodward and Arthur Hall Smith.
