I believe this style is called "American Four Square" (I have no idea why) or stick style, which I would suppose refers to a stick built,one of a kind house. I try to get as accurate a portrayal in the underpainting, but allow certain passages to remain unfinished until I get to the topcoats allowing for a fresh and unlabored look
David Zimmerman was born in Washington, D.C.He began his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964. He continued on in his training with Bill Woodward at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In order to receive a bacalaureate degree he transferred to George Washington University, where he studied Drawing and Printmaking with Frank Wright. He was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 1970.After a brief period of training with Phillip Pearlstein in Massachusetts, he returned to George Washington University where he again studied with William Woodward and Arthur Hall Smith.
